Timothy Adi Ashong is a leading expert in satellite communications and spectrum management, currently serving as the Director-General of RASCOM (Regional African Satellite Communications Organisation). With over two decades of experience in networking, telecommunications policy, and satellite regulations, he has played a pivotal role in shaping Africa’s space and telecommunications landscape.

His career began in 2002 as a network engineer at InternetGhana, where he contributed to expanding internet services in Ghana. He later joined the National Communications Authority (NCA), Ghana's regulatory agency, specializing in satellite spectrum management and regulatory frameworks. His expertise in spectrum allocation and satellite policies earned him leadership roles in international organizations, including:

  • Vice-Chairman, ITU-R Study Group 4 (International Telecommunication Union – Satellite Services)

  • Vice-Chair, African Telecommunications Union (ATU) for Satellite Regulation

  • Chair, ECOWAS Satellite Regulations Committee

His leadership has significantly influenced policies that improve satellite accessibility and telecommunications infrastructure in Africa.

As Director-General of RASCOM, Mr. Ashong is leading initiatives to enhance Africa’s sovereign satellite communication infrastructure, reducing dependency on foreign-owned satellite networks. His vision supports integrated satellite networks that enable seamless telecommunication, broadcasting, and internet access for rural and urban areas.

He actively collaborates with global satellite manufacturers, regulators, and research institutions to pioneer next-generation space architectures, such as satellite-based internet constellations, intercontinental space corridors, and autonomous satellite relay stations for deep-space missions.
